Safe decommissioning of a 1.5T MRI
A non-operational superconducting MRI required a carefully planned end-of-service transition. Sun Care coordinated the technical assessment, controlled quench, dismantling and preparation for onward logistics.

The challenge
The system was non-operational when work began. A cooling and water-flow fault, low helium inventory and abnormal cryogenic temperatures indicated an unstable magnet condition. The assessment supported controlled de-energization before dismantling.
Safety-led execution
Preparation included site safety coordination, Civil Defense notification, electrical isolation and verification of the external helium vent and oxygen monitoring. The controlled quench was completed successfully and the burst disc was replaced afterward.
Protection and logistics
Sun Care dismantled the system, protected its components and coordinated loading, warehouse logistics and export preparation. Shielding work covered the MRI shield door, shield window and required removable shielding components. Building openings and demolition were handled by the building side; reconstruction was outside the defined Sun Care scope.
The magnet was successfully de-energized and the system dismantled and protected, with loading, warehouse logistics and export preparation forming the onward scope.
