Preparing an MRI for its next stage
Sun Care supported the transition of this GE HD 1.5 Tesla MRI through dismantling, technical packaging and export preparation. What follows describes how that work is carried out on a 1.5T system; the site, destination and exact dates are not part of the confirmed record for this unit.
The magnet sets the rules
A 1.5 Tesla superconducting magnet decides how the whole job is planned. Before anything is touched, the field state and the cryogenic condition are established, the room is placed under ferrous discipline and an exclusion zone is set: tools, trolleys and personal items that are safe anywhere else become hazards inside it. Only once the magnet is in a safe, confirmed state does mechanical work begin.
Taken apart to be rebuilt
Covers, patient table, coils, gradient and RF cabinets and the cabling between them are separated in the reverse order of installation. Connectors are capped, boards handled against static discharge and every component labelled against the system drawings, so the set of parts that leaves the room can be rebuilt into a working system rather than merely shipped.
Packed for the journey, not the room
Technical packaging assumes vibration, handling and humidity along the whole route. Components are wrapped, padded, secured to skates or pallets and crated so nothing shifts under load, and the crates are marked and recorded with their weights and dimensions ready for the freight forwarder.
